The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has recently shown more readiness for negotiations on ending the war.
According to information from The Washington Post, the change in statements by the Ukrainian leader is related to the difficult situation on the front and the change in the political course of the USA following Donald Trump's rise to power.
Unlike the previous position on the withdrawal of Russian troops, Zelensky now emphasizes long-term security. In an interview with Sky News, he mentioned for the first Time the possibility of a diplomatic return of the occupied territories after the cessation of the 'hot phase of the war'.
During meetings with Trump and European leaders, Zelensky emphasizes the need for 'lasting peace' for Ukraine. One of the main priorities is to obtain an invitation to NATO and security guarantees, including the possible presence of Western peacekeepers.
However, Putin remains in his maximalist position, demanding that Ukraine abandon its NATO membership and recognize Russian sovereignty over the annexed territories, including Crimea.
