New original names for children have appeared in Ukraine
From 2022 to 2025, some parents in Ukraine showed originality and patriotism when giving names to their newborns. This was reported by 'Glavkom' referencing the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
In particular, among boys, rare names such as Myrolyub, Jan-Dzhavelin, and Artur-Bayraktar have emerged. According to the ministry, such names were inspired by famous drones and anti-tank missile systems. Among girls, names like Dzhavelin, Adelina-Dzhavelin, and Dzhavelin-Didem were encountered.
It is worth noting the name Stefania, whose popularity surged after the victory of the Kalush Orchestra at Eurovision 2022 with a song of the same name, the report states.
Also, during the war, children were given rare and underused names. Among them:
- for boys: Tristan, Ikhan, Umar, Tahir, Alidjan, Tengiz, Olgert, Chiprian, Eskinder, Nathaniel.
- for girls: Jasmine, Yasnarada, Kvitka, Glafira, Dara, Nana, Barbara, Sladislava, Lyala, Mary-Mikhailina.
It is recalled that there were rare and common names given to children during registration in the Vinnytsia region in 2024. The most popular names were: Anna, Sofia, Milana, Solomiya, Eva, Artem, Bohdan, Maksym, Matviy, Oleksandr.
As reported, the most frequently given names in 2023 were Anastasia, Victoria, Darina, Eva, Zlata, Andriy, Bohdan, Volodymyr, Vasyl, Danylo, and others.
