The Ukrainian language has its own rule according to which after nine consonants («d», «t», «z», «s», «ts», «ch», «sh», «j», «r») it is correct to write «i», not «i». Therefore, it is correct to say «chips», «stream» and «reels». This was stated by the philologist and literary editor Olga Vasilyeva.

Many are curious why «chips», but «chipati», «stream», but «streaming». She explains that we should not compare words from other languages with Ukrainian ones.

«I will ask the opposite question: why «posizion», but «pozikhati»? Why «director», but «dirka»? Why «jeans», but «bzhilka»? Should we write «pozitsiya», «dirktor», «dzhinsi»? We should not compare foreign and Ukrainian words. Of course, Ukrainians can pronounce them softened, but the Ukrainian language has a hard sound: Kyrylo, not Kirylo; commander, not komandyr; apartment, not kvartira. We must accept this language tradition», noted Olga Vasilyeva.

Earlier, Olga Vasilyeva mentioned that the most common mistakes of Ukrainians concern expressions and words: podkazhit, according to the law, hence and currently. She explained that Ukrainians often mistakenly add the letter «s» to the word «podkazhit». Another problem is the phrase «according to» or «in accordance with», when people say «according to the law».

The philologist, Ukrainizer, literary editor Olga Vasilyeva also reminded that in Ukrainian names, unlike Russian ones, there is no suffix -ik. Therefore, it is correct to say and write Tolyk, Vitalik, Slavyk, Vladik, Vadyk, Kostiк, Rostyk, Edik, Danyk.

The renowned writer Oksana Zabuzhko also explained how to properly confess love while avoiding Russian expressions. According to her, the Ukrainian language does not use bureaucratic expressions. She explained that to say «he confessed to me» is the same as in Russian «made a proposal», but everyone says «makes a proposal», which is incorrect.
