New price increase: how the cost of borscht set has changed.


The prices for borscht set in Ukraine have nearly doubled over the last 5 years
According to the estimates of Economic Truth, the current price of the borscht set is almost 175 UAH. A significant part of the expenses is on meat, so the option with lean borscht will be cheaper - approximately 65 UAH.
A significant share of the expenses is also for tomato paste or beet-tomato dressing, as some areas of Kherson region where tomatoes are grown are occupied, and this also applies to onions.
At the end of 2022, a kilogram of onions cost about 32 UAH. Although the price of onions has decreased by almost half the following year, it still remained higher than in 2021. Additionally, in 2024, potato prices sharply increased compared to the previous year.
The largest increase in the cost of the borscht set over the last 5 years occurred in 2022 (+53%). Carrots, onions, and pork saw the highest price increases.
In 2023, growth was approximately 12%. Then the highest price increases were for potatoes, tomato paste, and pork, while the prices for carrots and onions decreased.
The prices of the borscht set in 2024 have increased by almost 8.5%. The largest price increases occurred for beets, cabbage, carrots, and potatoes.
Over the last 5 years, the cost of additions to borscht, such as sour cream and bread, has also increased. The price of rye bread and sour cream has practically doubled compared to 2021.
