Luxury tax is not for everyone: which drivers can save.

The Ukrainian legislation has a strange loophole that allows owners of expensive cars to avoid paying the luxury tax.
Expert Yevhen Yermolov spoke about this during an interview with Yuriy Romanenko.
According to Yermolov, the list of cars subject to taxation has its peculiarities.
'When they compiled the list of cars, they missed, for example, Ferrari or McLaren. Some brands are simply not included in the list. And if your brand is not on the list, then usually you do not pay the luxury tax. It seems to be just a mistake in the law,' Yermolov noted.
The expert explained that the luxury tax is levied on cars whose price exceeds 3 million hryvnias, while the minimum wage is 8,000 hryvnias. The tax amount is 25,000 hryvnias per year and is paid during the first five years from the moment of the car's production.
'If you bought a two-year-old car, then for three years you continue to pay this tax, after which you stop paying from the moment of production,' the expert explained.
Yermolov noted that this loophole may not be significant for most car owners: 'This probably doesn't concern us; we don't buy Ferraris. But those who suddenly... There are many other brands, almost all of them are familiar to us.'
This problem exists alongside strict requirements for customs clearance of regular cars. For example, when importing a car from the USA or Europe, customs adds additional costs to the declared value, including auction commission and logistics costs, which increases the base for calculating customs duties.
The expert emphasized the need to revise the legislation concerning car taxation. Owners of regular cars have faced various additional payments, while some sectors of the premium car market may have unforeseen advantages due to technical shortcomings in the legislation.
This information is particularly relevant for those planning to purchase a premium car aged up to five years. However, according to the expert, such loopholes in legislation may be corrected in the future.
