A massive failure occurred in Russia's internet services and communication operators.

Downdetector service reports that Russians are facing issues with the operation of communication operators, banks, internet services, and social networks.
There are disruptions in the work of MTS, 'MegaFon', and other communication operators, as well as in the T-Bank and Alfa-Bank applications. Users from Russia also report problems accessing Google, Rutube, 'VKontakte', and other platforms.
Access restrictions to foreign services
In early December 2024, foreign services and messengers, including YouTube, Telegram, and WhatsApp, were unavailable in Dagestan, Chechnya, and Ingushetia. Local operators explained this by conducting training scenarios for Roskomnadzor on disabling access to foreign segments of the network. The restrictions lasted for a day. Local residents complained that even local services were unavailable.
YouTube blocking in Russia
In some places in December, there was a 20% decrease in YouTube traffic in Russia from the usual level. The director of the non-profit organization 'Internet Protection Society', Mikhail Klimarev, confirmed the blocking of YouTube in the Russian Federation.
Fines for Google and channel blocking
The company Google was fined 20 decillion dollars for failing to comply with the requirements to block pro-Kremlin channels on YouTube. The court also requires Google to restore the blocked channels. The amount of the imposed fine exceeds the volume of the global economy several times.
Roskomnadzor also restricted access to Viber in the Russian Federation.
