Drone attack on an oil depot in Russia
In the city of Yartsevo, Smolensk region (RF), there was a drone attack on the night of December 31. This led to damage to the local oil depot and the outbreak of a fire.
Roman Zakharov, head of the Yartsevo district in Smolensk region, reported that the fuel and energy facility was attacked by 'Ukrainian drones.'
'As a result of the enemy's attack, fires broke out. Currently, the Emergency Ministry's teams are working at the scene to extinguish the flames,' the district head said.
Investigations into this situation are being carried out by special services and competent authorities, Zakharov added. He also urged local residents not to post footage of the drone attack and the operation of air defense systems on social media.
Smolensk region Governor Vasily Anokhin stated in his statement that the fire at the oil depot was caused by debris from a downed drone.
'Today, in the Yartsevo district, the Russian Ministry of Defense's air defense systems suppressed the attack of Ukrainian drones. According to preliminary information, debris from one of the unmanned aerial vehicles fell on the territory of the oil depot. As a result, there was a fuel spill, and a fire started with petroleum products,' Anokhin reported.
The governor also stated that 'localization of the consequences' is currently underway and there is no threat to residential buildings.
